Ahmed Selim

Ahmed Selim Ahmed Salem is a renowned Egyptian artist and academic, born on May 22, 1968, in the Nubian village of Al-Ramady Bahary in Edfu, Aswan Governorate. He is a professor and Head of the Painting Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Minia University, a position he has held since 2017.

Education and Early Career

Ahmed Selim earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Mural Painting from Minia University in 1991. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Mural Painting at Helwan University, graduating in 1998, and completed his PhD in Philosophy of Art there in 2005. His academic journey also included advanced diplomas in Graphic Arts from Minia University and the University of Siegen in Germany, broadening his technical and conceptual expertise.
His professional career began as a Teaching Assistant at Minia University in 1993. Over time, he advanced to become a full professor, gaining recognition for his significant contributions to research and education in mural painting and environmental art.

Artistic Vision and Achievements

Selim’s work is deeply rooted in his Nubian heritage, blending traditional aesthetics with contemporary themes. His art has been exhibited widely, both in Egypt and internationally, with showcases in Germany, Spain, France, and Italy. His notable exhibitions include:

– “From Aswan to Murcia” (2016)
– “Eyes of Egypt” (2019)
– “Southern Passion” (2023, Cairo Opera House)
– “The Joy of the South” (2024, Sheikh Zayed).

In addition to his exhibitions, Selim has created large-scale mural projects in cultural landmarks across Egypt, including Luxor, Minia, and Aswan, enriching public spaces with vibrant visual narratives.

Ahmed Selim is a respected scholar in the fields of mural painting techniques, sustainable art practices, and the cultural significance of graffiti. His book “Graffiti: Witness to the Revolution” (2012) documents the artistic expressions during Egypt’s 2011 revolution and remains a critical reference for contemporary art studies in the region.

As an active member of Egypt’s artistic community, Selim is affiliated with the Syndicate of Fine Artists and the Union of Artists and Writers at Atelier Cairo. He has served as a jury member for various artistic competitions and academic research panels, further influencing the development of Egypt’s art scene.
